The de Campos Family
from c.1583

  • The de Campos crest above is of Spanish origin.

  • In 1675, in consequence of the hatred of the other merchants, the Portuguese sought to leave Bordeaux, and on 20 Nov 1684, many poor Jews (comprising twenty-one families, the Lombresso, Campos, and Monsanto, among others) were expelled from Bordeaux on the ground of treason to the king. This decree was annulled on 11 Jan 1686 and from that date the French government tacitly accepted the Jews as residents of Bordeaux. (The Jewish Encyclopedia)

  • Spelling variations of this family name include: Campos, Campo, de Campos, de Campo, del Campo, Camps, Campillo, del Campillo, Ocampo, de Ocampo, Campa and many more. First found in Castile, an important Christian kingdom of medieval Spain.
