Autumn Rain

There’s a gentle fall of rain at the window by my bed
And the moon is going down behind the hills,
With the dawn chasing stars while the wind pursues the clouds
And I wrap my blankets close against the cold.

Must be a thousand skeins of geese flying on to warmer weather,
Three miles for every line that they will fly.
They’ve the freedom of their wings as they wander on the wind;
Oh, if only they could carry me away.

(Chorus:)

The changing of the seasons goes forever
And nothing in our lives stays the same.
Migrant birds can fly but hearts can only cry
When left alone to be in autumn rain.

Ah, there used to be a magic I could feel within my heart
And the wind was sweet as honey in my soul.
But the days bring too much learning and the nights hold too much pain
And I wish to God I wasn’t here alone.

Now the rain is on my shoulders as I walk on down the road,
And my mind is filled with memories of you.
As the geese are winging southward and the wind is in my hair,
I can hide within the shadow of a dream.

The changing of the seasons goes forever
And nothing in our lives stays the same.
The migrant birds will fly but our hearts can only cry
When left to be alone in autumn rain.

The changing of the seasons goes forever
And nothing in our lives stays the same.
The migrant birds will fly but our hearts can only cry
When left to be alone in autumn rain,
In the autumn rain.
