Horizon Dawn

After all, there’s been a lot gone down,
And the times and the places and the miles and the memories merge:
After all, when you boil it down
And the tops and the bottoms and the lefts and the rights converge,
Then steering on the stellar north,
I know my course weaves back and forth,
The wind and change,
The storm and blow,
The ballast in the keel below holds on.

Horizon Dawn,
And the boat is still sailing on the sea.
Horizon Dawn,
My hand on the tiller, wing on wing and running free,
Horizon Dawn.

After all, you’re a sailor now,
And you know you can handle all the weather and the rolling sea.
After all, you’ve been learning how
To make it on your own, standing strong and sailing free.

Horizon Dawn,
And the boat is still sailing on the sea.
Horizon Dawn,
My hand on the tiller, wing on wing and running free,
Horizon Dawn.

After all, you get to walk ashore
And rest your weary body and mind in the snow-white sand.
After all, you’ve been there before,
And your single hand sailing brings you singing back to where you began.
The boat will stay at anchor for
A while off the sea-swept shore,
Till once again you set your sail
With first light on the starboard rail, making way:

Horizon Dawn,
And the boat is still sailing on the sea.
Horizon Dawn,
My hand on the tiller, wing on wing and running free,
Horizon Dawn.

After all, as the years go by,
You find that the best of your life is the good that you’ve done.
After all, there’s no question why,
And the measure of a man is in the lives of the friends he’s won.
You see yourself surrounded by
The reasons that you’ve got to try
To keep you heart in all you do
Whatever change you’re going through,
And sail on:

Horizon Dawn,
And the boat is still sailing on the sea.
Horizon Dawn,
My hand on the tiller, wing on wing and running free,
Horizon Dawn.
