Ride from Jerusalem

Put down my tools for the day. There was nothing on the TV.
I picked up my guitar to play and my thoughts were rolling free.
Maybe these lines are gonna catch your ears with a tune that’s simple and new,
And I’m looking through the wine to find another sweet line and I’m writing this one to you.

Maybe twice a month, half an hour at a time, is all you’re gonna get to hear,
And it’s not long enough to really sing my mind nor to get the message clear.
It’s because you’re here I take the ride from Jerusalem and take another chance to play:
On a Wednesday night all my songs take flight ’cause you listen and it makes my day.

My Friday nights are lonely. Thank God for the telephone.
I don’t feel much like cooking; you know I hate to eat alone.
I’ve got a hundred songs behind me, only not a one of them gets inside:
Like ripples on a pond from a skipping stone, they just hide another level of pride.

Now I’m runnin’ like hell for the daylight sun; I’ve got a shadow stuck in my eye.
Freeing one love to find another one, born while the fire dies.
I lose my mind in a circle of song; if you find it, please let me know.
When I hear it from you then I’ll know what to do, so catch me before I go.

Maybe twice a month, half an hour at a time, is all you’re gonna get to hear,
And it’s not long enough to really sing my mind nor to get the message clear.
It’s because you’re here I take the ride from Jerusalem and take another chance to play:
On a Wednesday night all my songs take flight ’cause you listen and it makes my day,
And on a Wednesday night all my songs take flight ’cause you listen and it makes my day.
